Opening Night Magic: A Proud Dad, a Joyful Cast, and a Whole Lot of Heart

There’s a moment in every theatrical production where you wonder if all the long rehearsals, late nights, and anxious dreams will pay off. For The Music Man, opening night answered that question with thunderous applause, heartfelt laughter, and an energy that you could feel humming through every seat in the theatre.

It was a hit. But more than that, it was a deeply moving, soul-filling experience. I walked off that stage buzzing with adrenaline, a heart full of joy, and yes, a touch of awe. Because, as proud as I am of the show itself, I was even prouder of who I got to share the stage with.

Everett absolutely shone as Winthrop. Watching my son step into that role with such sincerity and quiet strength was enough to make my heart burst. He’s always had a spark, but last night he lit up the stage.

And Danika—well, she was her usual magnetic self. Every time she steps into the spotlight, she makes it her own. I’m endlessly inspired by how fearless she is up there. Sharing this theatre journey with them is one of the great privileges of my life.

Of course, Emily always amazes me with her natural talent and charisma on the stage. My family is awesome.

As for me, I conquered the one scene that’s haunted me the most in rehearsal… only to stumble somewhere else entirely. Apparently, Mrs. Paroo has a new cousin named Mrs. Winthrop. Who knew?

But honestly, it didn’t matter. Because that audience was so full of love and laughter, and our cast so deeply connected and supportive, the joy of the night swept over everything. That’s the magic of this production.

The Music Man works not just because of the music, the dancing, or even the charming small-town story—it works because of the people bringing it to life. The Community On Stage cast and crew have created something truly special. I’ve been overwhelmed by the kind words and encouragement I received after the show.

This group is not only talented, they are also thoughtful, generous, and genuinely warm-hearted. Being part of this cast has been a gift. Trevor Sinke, Jennifer Lynn Mountain, Catherine Seifried Weddell, Jacky Vong, and Jessy Morgan Davies have made my job infinitely easier with their expressive performances and playful energy. They, like so many others in this cast, make the stage feel like home.

And none of it would happen without the behind-the-scenes heroes. A special shoutout to Eric Koman, whose wizardry makes my quick change go off without bruises or panic attacks. Every crew member deserves a standing ovation of their own for keeping this production running seamlessly.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you still have seven more chances to catch the magic. Thursday’s performance features a fantastic understudy cast (though Everett won’t be Winthrop for that one), and every show promises to be something special.
