The Breakdown of Where We Are Now

Yes, yes, yes... I’ve once again pulled off the impressive feat of not posting a “weekly” podcast for several weeks. But time is subjective, right? One person's week is another person's last several months.

As we cross the halfway point of 2025, I still haven’t seen a single new release from this year. And no, this episode won’t break that streak—there are still no 2025 movie reviews.

BUT—I do dive into the year so far by analyzing some of the box office hits. I also discuss the releases I need to catch up on and the upcoming films I’m most excited to check out.

The goal?

To eventually deliver the most robust and insightful Best-of-the-Year show possible.

So yes, the catch-up begins now.

This episode also gets a bit personal. I talk about how being a neurodivergent critic shapes the way I engage with film. I’ve obviously always seen movies through this lens, but now I can intentionally lean into how my brain wiring gives me different perspectives and attachments to art and storytelling—something I think adds real value to the conversation around film criticism.

I also chat about where The Movie Breakdown is headed next, both in terms of my goals and my output. Because we can all dream that this is the fresh start—even if we’re already six months into 2025.

If you enjoy the episode, I’d be incredibly grateful if you helped spread the word. Share it on your social media of choice, or recommend it to a friend who loves movies.

You can also help the podcast grow by rating and subscribing on SpreakerSpotify, iHeartApple PodcastGoogle PodcastsCastBoxAmazon Music, or wherever you love to listen to your podcasts. Another great way to support us is by listening directly on the Spreaker App

Thanks, as always, for being part of this wild ride through movies, creativity, and the messiness of being human. More soon—I promise.
