One of my all-time and consistently most-read pieces is The Return of Misleading but Accurate Descriptions of Popular Movies. As the title hints, it was a sequel to the rather appropriately named Completely Misleading but Accurate Descriptions of Famous Movies. Both pieces are correct plot descriptions of well-known movies written in a way that may give you the wrong perception of the feature.
Since both pieces were hits, and because this is just plain fun, it seemed like the perfect time to do some more. Spoilers ahead... but if you haven't seen them, you will likely just get the wrong impression anyway.
Men in Black: A secret organization devoted to hunting down foreigners recruits a cop who shows he’s willing to shoot a little girl.
Terminator: A man and woman vow to keep AI out of their life.
Ghost: After his girlfriend won't listen to or see him, a man seeks to kill his best friend, who is now spending time with her.
Field of Dreams: After a farmer starts hearing voices, he shirks all his daily responsibilities.
Wizard of Oz: A woman shunned by a dictatorial society tries to stop a team recruited by the government to kill her, after one already did the deed to her sister.
Halloween (2018): Podcasters convince an isolated man to return home and finish the work he started over forty years ago, while reconnecting with the woman who has been waiting for him.
Empire Strikes Back: After getting a hypothermic vision, a man abandons his friends to learn gymnastics and meditation from a green man with speech issues.
Alien: A bunch of disgruntled employees ignore their company's orders and hunt down a newborn instead.
Frozen: A woman tries to reconnect with her estranged sister, just to talk about the weather.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: A father and son team up to destroy historical buildings and ancient artifacts.
A League of Their Own: A loud and angry drunk convinces a group of lonely women to travel with him on a bus and arm themselves with wooden bats they are prepared to use often.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: A twenty-something in a struggling garage band and failing relationship decides to devote his time to beating up another woman's exes.
Pirates of the Caribbean: A rich and pampered woman runs away from her fiancé and lies about her heritage to join a group of scruffy sailors.
Logan: A tired and heartbroken man adopts a young girl with anger issues, and goes on a road trip to help her confront her past.
Titanic: An emotional woman watches while many people drown, including her lover.
The Exorcist: After a young girl becomes deathly ill, her mother hires two men to scream at her and demand she get out of bed.
Thor: An arrogant royal gets thrown out of his kingdom, so he responds by breaking into government facilities, destroying the property of small businesses, and picking a fight with his adopted brother.
First Blood: A sheriff offers a drifter a lift, and his actions are repaid when the disturbed man destroys the town.
Get Out: A girl brings home her boyfriend, and the family enjoys having him around so much that they do whatever it takes to keep him there.
The Thing: An isolated group of researchers starts seeing each other very differently after an unexpected visit from a stranger.
Feel free to add your own very accurate but incredibly misleading movie decriptions.
