Beyond the Balcony

It is a quiet week for new releases at the movie theatre, but that doesn't mean there aren't lots of movies to talk about. This week we've got reviews for five new releases including a few that have done the festival circuit. We have a dramedy starring Mark Duplass and Ray Romano in Paddleton . Speaking of funny, Stephen Merchant directs a biopic about former WWE wrestler Paige in Fighting with My Family. We are also reviewing three foreign films that are the art house picture The Tree of Blood , the gangster flick The Drug King and the heist comedy Yucatan. As always, we go down some rabbit trails and try to not derail the closing. We had a great time this week and we really hope you love the show. The Breakdown of 'Tenet', 'The New Mutants', 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly', 'Get Duked!' and Remembering Chadwick Boseman

The movie theatres have been open for a few weeks in most of Canada, but the real movie studio tentpoles have finally arrived. We have one of the biggest and most anticipated movies to review this week in Christopher Nolan's twisty sci-fi spy thriller, Tenet . Speaking of anticipating, it has been three years since we originally were expecting to see it on the big screen but the coming-of-age superhero horror picture in The New Mutants will be discussed this week. We also look at a movie that may be one of the most influential and well-known Westerns ever in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. We also have Amazon Prime's latest movie in the dark comedy, Get Duked! that we will review . We also celebrate the life and career of a movie star that we lost way too soon in the great Chadwick Boseman. We had a great time recording this episode and we really hope you love it as well. The Breakdown of the Best of 2019

It is mid-January in 2020, so it is the perfect time to do our Best of 2019 episode! While I've said a few times that 2019 was a good but not amazing year for movies, I started questioning that stance while trying to put together my list. I had a hard time narrowing it down to ten movies, as there was so much great stuff that I wanted to talk about. But I found my ten movies, as this week Scott and I both rank our top ten favourite movies of the past year. It is a celebration of all the greatness that was movies in 2019 and also a pretty handy list of recommendations for movies you can track down. We had a blast doing this show.
