Nostalgia sometimes can get in the way of people's perceptions. Some critics that bemoan the modern state of cinema are often comparing it to the1970s during a time filmmakers had massive freedoms and pictures were geared towards adults. Those days will never return. If you look at the current state of motion pictures compared to times in the 1980s and early 1990s it will become clear things are far from dire. Actually, there are many movies worth getting very excited about. I defend the modern big studio wide-release pictures over at Collective Publishing.
