This is something I tell my kids often as they chase their passions. Whether it’s acting, cello, or any creative pursuit, true growth comes from the drive to improve, not from simply believing in your own greatness.
Lately, I’ve realized this applies just as much to my own journey, both in mental health and in my endless mountain of creative goals.
It’s okay (and actually good) to recognize that my latest story, podcast, performance, or article could be better. The key is not to see that as failure but as motivation.
The challenge isn’t in being perfect but in embracing the process, learning from each attempt, and pushing myself to keep growing.
No matter where we are in our journey, the mindset of continuous improvement is what leads to true greatness.

I am a writer, so I write. When I am not writing, I will eat candy, drink beer, and destroy small villages.
