I've joined The Video Librarian as one of their new film critics and columnists. For those unfamiliar, The Video Librarian caters to librarians, educators, archivists, and film programmers by helping them decide which films are worth showing or collecting.
This means my reviews are a little different than usual. While I still analyze and critique the movies, I do so through a lens aimed at this specific audience, and movies are rated out of five stars rather than my usual four.
My debut review covers the documentary The Route: From China to America about Chinese asylum seekers who, unable to secure visas through traditional channels, embark on the “zouxian,” or “the walking route”, which is a dangerous trek across nine Latin American countries to reach America.
Immigration is a divisive topic today, yet we rarely hear about the actual experiences involved with the dangers, the challenges, and the complexities that continue even once asylum seekers reach their destination. This documentary presents those stories, which will spark meaningful discussion.
You can read my first review for The Video Librarian here. Please note it’s a premium site, though you can access up to 10 free articles for about 90 days.

I am a writer, so I write. When I am not writing, I will eat candy, drink beer, and destroy small villages.
