This photo is from a staff Christmas party we went to way back in 2013. I am not sure what was inside that giant bag. My brain is sliding towards it being some kind of truck. Red and blue. Had a ramp. Maybe a few little vehicles inside.
Or it could have been a slab of kryptonite. Or a decapitated elf.
Probably the truck.
But honestly, the most exciting part of any gift is rarely the thing itself. It’s the promise of something. The mystery. The sudden jolt of possibility that you didn’t see coming.
I’ve always been someone who gets swept up in hype, which is why I’m so good at rolling out lists of things coming soon on the site… even if I don’t always deliver them exactly on schedule. But that’s part of the thrill, too, right? The mess. The momentum. The excitement of trying.
And more is coming here: more writing, more stories, more pop culture deep dives, more movie reviews, more Life on the Balcony reflections. Just like life, this place runs on surprises, and sometimes the waiting and wondering is half the fun.
If you’d like to help me keep the bag of goodies overflowing, I’d be incredibly grateful for your support by sharing the site with others or subscribing to Life on the Balcony on Substack.. And if you’re in a spot to pitch in a bit more, you can always drop a few coins in the tip jar through the Support Me badge or over on my Ko-fi.

I am a writer, so I write. When I am not writing, I will eat candy, drink beer, and destroy small villages.
