AI Shift

HAL 9000. T-1000 and Skynet. Replicants. The Machines in The Matrix.

Hollywood has a long history of making AI the villain. Something we should be afraid of. Something we need to be careful and wary of. Not allow things to get out of control. Not allow them to rise up. Not to become too reliant on them.

It was all fiction.

Now, many decades later, it feels more like a warning. It feels like maybe we won't get the flying cars and time travel, but AI having the potential to take control, that seems possible. Some of the things regarding AI and robots in fiction are not only happening, but there are actual risks that governments don't appear to be taking too seriously as the AI bandwagon overflows.

So, is it a shock that in the last few years we've had a lot more movies where AI is our friend and the hero. The one we should sympathize with rather than the threat. Hollywood is trying to shift the narrative right around the time they are likely planning to use it more and more to make their own movies.
