I'm back.
Considering how little I've created outside of reposts or anecdotes, it is unlikely you noticed or, more likely, cared about my absence.
I had been away for a week up at a cottage where I got to spend some absolutely lovely time with my immediate family and many members of my extended family (my brother's troupe and my parents). The Wi-fi didn't seem to work on my ancient laptop, and I took that as a reason to stay disconnected for my time up there.
I returned incredibly happy that I spent the week with loved ones, but I also feel rather sluggish and drained from sleep struggles and a myriad of thoughts refusing to stop dominating my energy and internal processes.
I found out today that my one regular, but rather low-paying, client has decided to remove me from the contributor board that accesses the regular workflow and shifts our relationship to the far less reliable pitch status. If I am completely realistic about my situation, it really hasn't changed at all from a financial security perspective, but it still feels like a slight dent in the already battered state of my career.
This week means a lot of pitching and trying to seek out some potentially consistent and decent-paying clients as my top priority. Likely attempts to create some work for my now less consistent client, and some work on a story that I hope to sell to a rather decent-paying and well-known publication that has expressed interest in a subject I know quite well.
This means writing review and pop culture pieces for Beyond the Balcony, creating new issues for the Life on the Balcony newsletter, and recording new episodes of The Movie Breakdown remain crucial, but their promise of income is a little farther off. This means likely a hold on things like essay collections and exclusive paid tier pieces until I have some form of reliable income stream in place. Unless some majestic fairy conjures up a way for these more creative and personal projects to send some real money my way.
My hope is to return to weekly newsletters and podcasts this week, and for the site to have daily articles and reviews that fit closer to the original visions, but I also need to be realistic with the energy and time I have, and I'm in a rather desperate and dire state where I must earn some money as of months ago.
I am always grateful for your support.
I've said it to the point of parody, but the best is yet to come.
