Things This Old Grump Misses

Living It All Before It Happens

What I believe is a very common neurodivergent trait, and at least has been something I've tugged at my whole life, is rehearsing, acting out, storyboarding, and scripting exactly what will happen at an upcoming event. Often it becomes so deep and focused that I feel it, and I start responding to what I imagined would happen. If it's negative, I am worn out and battered before it even happens. I play out the scenarios in my head, but also emotionally feel what is happening.

It does help me be emotionally ready for a situation and go in with some confidence. But it can also drain me. Or completely ruin my mood before the negative thing even actually happens. Sometimes it doesn't even happen. So, I am drained for the rest of the day even when nothing really happened.

In other news, I have a dentist appointment.
