I'm trying to decide what I want a Christopher Spicer movie review to look like. Partly to make sure it feeds my own creativity and optimizes my writing style and thought process. But also, to be honest, to figure out the best way to stand out and attract the most readers.
I believe that the closer I follow my own instincts and write in my voice and style, the more successful it will be. I just have to decide what exactly that is.
Do I want to continue the way I have been reviewing movies with brief blocks of text explaining who stars, directs, and distributes, and crafted in a format similar to how reviews show up in newspapers or on RogerEbert.com?
Or do I want it to be more of an essay and free-flowing style. Where I tackle ideas and themes that also happen to be reviewing a movie. Maybe something more personal. My thoughts on the movie are clear, but I try to make it less 'traditional review ' and more storytelling and opinion piece with movie thoughts as the guiding light.
I know where I am leaning, and maybe I'll treat the next few weeks as a way to figure out exactly what style is most authentic to what I want to do on this site.
