The success of Backrooms, Obsession, and Project Haily Mary gives me some hope that the theatrical movie experience has room for more than superheroes, IPs, and sequels. It has been obvious for a while that horror movies can get away with being successful on original ideas, and two of the mentioned movies are in that genre. But I'm hopeful that filmmakers can use what draws people to horror movies and continue to tell unique stories that draw audiences. Original stories are vital to the survival and creativity of cinema.
