Do People Actually Like Me?

Standing On Your Own

There are many reasons I loved Roger Ebert. But one of the great things was that he could write a great, thoughtful, and insightful review while having an opinion that went against the consensus. He did not like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Kick-Ass, or Blue Velvet despite being critically acclaimed. He was just as happy to recommend movies like Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Knowing, and Cloud Atlas while most other critics panned them. He stood on his own. He followed his own feelings, take, and perspective. He wrote great reviews that justified why he landed on a film the way he did.

My hope is I can capture that same magic, while staying true to my convictions on movies.
