I secretly would act out movie scenes or fantasies behind closed doors for years. It was a shame. It was embarrassing. I was an adult, but I was talking to myself or playing acting. My AuDHD diagnosis revealed this was a form of stimming and crucial to my regulation. Just like how many neurodivergent people collect toys or watch cartoons deemed for kids. The reality is that our society has made a huge mistake deciding what is deemed immature or what we should grow out of. There is a reason community theatre or board games thrive, because it is 'play' that seems socially acceptable. I feel it is a great disservice for us to decide what is adult play and what should be left to childhood. Play is important. Allowing our imagination to thrive is important. In whatever form it takes.
