The train has officially pulled out of River City. And as I sit with the quiet that follows eight incredible shows and four months of rehearsals, I can already feel the ache of goodbye. This one’s a tough one to let go. I’ve had the privilege of performing in some amazing productions, but The Music Man stands out as something truly special. A show where everything aligned with the cast, the energy, the community, the growth, and the friendships.
A show that offered not only an amazing creative outlet but a deep sense of belonging for me and my family.
💙 The cast, crew, and creative team were an inspiring, welcoming, and wildly talented group. You created a space that was equal parts professional and playful, ambitious and supportive. From day one, I felt safe to try, to fail, to grow, and to be me.
💙 Mayor Shinn was a blast. I loved stepping into his scowling shoes and bombastic speeches. I’ve had substantial roles before, but this was the first time I felt the character I played consistently drove scenes forward. Especially in the final moments, I had to help steer the ship home, and I’m humbled that Community On Stage trusted me with that responsibility. Even more touching? At two performances, some kids asked to “see” Mayor Shinn after the show. My heart melted.
💙 Performing with a live band was a first for me, and it added a whole new layer of magic. The musicians were phenomenal, and our backstage crew? Tireless, focused, and incredibly kind. I’m especially grateful to Sarah Adam, Sherry Koman (costume wizard!), and Eric Koman for helping me juggle quick changes. You made the chaos feel calm.
💙 My family thrived in this show. Emily once again proved she's the real star in the house, stealing every scene she was in as a Pick-a-Little Lady. Everett shone as Winthrop, growing more confident with every rehearsal, and Danika made lasting friendships. Watching the cast embrace both of my kids with warmth and encouragement meant the world to me. I’ll never forget it.
💙 To the friends who came out to support us, we thank you. Your kind words after the show, your presence, and your generosity were all deeply appreciated.
💙 To the COS community saw me, supported me, and created an environment where I didn’t have to mask. That’s rare. I’m still new to understanding my AuDHD diagnosis and how it’s shaped my life, but I never once felt judged or out of place here. Whether I was feeling chatty and energized or quietly stimming in a corner, I felt accepted. After 47 years of masking, that’s no small thing.
I have so many specific thank-yous:
Scott Mountain – Thank you for your steady, encouraging leadership and for giving me room to make Mayor Shinn my own. Your calm and openness shaped the spirit of this production.
Andrew Scott – You made a non-singer like me feel welcome and supported. Your post-show compliments gave me a real boost. You may look like someone who’d shake me down for lunch money, but you are pure kindness and joy.
Emily Jane Mew – Your choreography and encouragement helped me push past self-doubt. You believed in Everett and helped him blossom. Thank you.
Kris Hopper – You kept our organized chaos afloat with grace and good humour. Your warm smile at every rehearsal was an anchor.
Trevor Sinke – Playing opposite you was a gift. You were the heartbeat of this show, and your generosity on and offstage elevated all of us.
Jennifer Lynn Mountain – I’ve raved about your talent at home. Getting to act alongside you and receive your backstage encouragement meant more than you know.
Catherine Seifried Weddell – The best Eulalie a Shinn could ask for. Our scenes were pure joy, and I hope we get to work together again soon.
Jessy Morgan Davies – I loved being your on-stage dad. You radiate positivity, and our deeper conversations, especially about neurodivergence, meant the world to me. I feel seen and understood when we talk.
Jacky Vong – Your joyful energy lifted every scene, and your kindness toward the kids was noticed and appreciated.
Julia Galvao – My little Gracie! It was a treat building our Wells Fargo Wagon scene together and hanging out backstage.
Samuel Reeves – You cracked me up every single show. Hilarious and full of charm.
John Albert Logo – Thank you for connecting with Danika and for being a strong, generous presence throughout the show.
Ian Steele – Your dedication inspired me. Your quiet encouragement meant more than I can say.
Sebastien Williams – Calm, reliable, and impressively talented. You juggled dual roles and made it look effortless.
Jacob Hundt – Hysterically funny and refreshingly real. I enjoyed every moment with you.
William G Thiele – You entertained the kids and encouraged me very show. It didn’t go unnoticed.
Daphne Clarke – You were stellar as Marian on Thursday and always rock-solid as Maude. I’m so proud of you.
Petra Brzak – I loved sharing the stage again. I loved how we created the little moment where I dodged your 'trombone' playing.
Jason Bilow – Your cast cheers, leadership, and generosity helped create the family vibe we all felt.
Liv MacQueen – Creative, thoughtful, and talented. I valued our conversations about mental health, writing, and art as much as anything on stage.
Jake Parr – You owned Marcellus like a seasoned pro. I can’t wait to see what you do next, and hopefully, we’ll share more scenes down the line.
This list could be longer. Every single person contributed something special. I hope I was able to give back a fraction of what I received.
You embraced my family. You supported me through a vulnerable time. You created a space where I could be open about my neurodivergence. And you made me feel like I belonged.
This show meant everything.
I’ll carry it with me, always.
Whatever’s next, The Music Man will always hold a piece of my heart.
