Where Did the Crowd Come From?

Out of nowhere, Beyond the Balcony has started pulling in bigger numbers than it has in years. Posts are suddenly hitting a few hundred views within hours without much promotion, and despite the fact that most of what I’ve been posting lately are loose thoughts and recycled social media bits.

The site is growing despite the lack of articles and reviews that I've constantly been hyping or promising. I feel like I've been miles away from crafting my “best” or most original work that I believed would be what would gain an audience. Honestly, I’ve just been battling to get anything on the site while feeling stuck in survival mode. Yet the site is growing at a time when I feel least prepared for it.

Sure, my inconsistency over the past few years played a big role in shrinking my readership. But still… this sudden attention baffles me.

I do feel a little guilty that I haven’t been posting fresh reviews or big pop culture deep-dives lately. At the same time, the numbers are a real motivation to get back to the creative, fun work I want to do here.

Or maybe returning to that type of writing jinxes it.
