17 Things I Should Have Written About in 2025

I'm scattered. I'm struggling. I'm distracted. To cope, I’ve mostly written about my neurodivergence diagnosis this year. But in another realm (one where my brain is more settled) I would’ve written about these things:

  1. Movie reviews! Actual insights, thoughts, and analysis of real live movies.

  2. James Earl Jones. The man voiced Darth Vader and Mufasa, and he was the villain in Conan the Barbarian. That alone makes him a pillar of my pop culture upbringing.

  3. The Blue Jays’ return to the World Series. It took 32 years! I was obsessed in 1992 and 1993. There’s a whole essay in that nostalgia and relief.

  4. Those unpicked pitches. If no one else wants them, they deserve life here.

  5. Robert Redford. A legend. I should at least review one of his classics.

  6. Diane Keaton. Maybe it’s time I finally check out Annie Hall.

  7. Halloween! It’s nearly here, and I’ve written nothing spooky.

  8. Hulk Hogan. I was obsessed with wrestling, even if he was never my guy, and I feel like he wasn't a great human, there’s something to unpack there.

  9. Back to the Future turns 40. What does it mean now?

  10. The Goonies turn 40, too. A defining movie of my childhood. It deserves its own reflection.

  11. Iron Man. Why that movie launched the most successful franchise ever.

  12. Substack. It could’ve snuck in one or two more pop culture essays this month.

  13. Pop-Tarts. The world doesn’t have enough Pop-Tart think pieces.

  14. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Its lasting legacy, and its flaws.

  15. Sweat pants. Is it time for a third poem?

  16. Adventure games. How they’ve shaped my mental health and neurodivergence journey.

  17. Cupcakes. Every blog needs an essay about cupcakes.

Maybe I’ll get to some of these before the year’s out. Or maybe this list will be my accountability partner, mocking me until I do.
