It seems my “Substack as a way to game the algorithms” plan has veered a little off course. I originally meant for it to be a place to share links to new Beyond the Balcony articles, plus a few short pieces through October. The idea was to really bring the personality to the party once I launched a paid tier in November.
I may now hold off on the paid tier, and instead, Substack has become the home for three full-fledged, original essays. As I balance freelance work with my own writing, it looks like Substack will continue to be a major creative outlet as I try to grow an audience there.
My latest piece is a deeply personal one. I explore how movies, storytelling, and writing became my life raft to navigate the choppy, neurotypical waters as an undiagnosed AuDHDer. It’s about finding connection, safety, and self-understanding through creativity, imagination, and passion.
It’s cathartic, heartfelt, and filled with the usual pop culture references, humour, and charm that make these kinds of stories fun to write and hopefully, read.
If it resonates with you, I’d love for you to consider subscribing to Life on the Balcony on Substack.

I am a writer, so I write. When I am not writing, I will eat candy, drink beer, and destroy small villages.
