His Stage Debut

It wasn’t musical theatre. It wasn’t a play. It was a simple reading at our church’s Christmas concert. Well, the two older kids spoke their lines from their sheets. Everett had his memorized. Learning things quickly has always been one of his things.

He delivered it with emotion and energy. He connected with his audience, because many members I had never met before came to me praising how stirring and charismatic he was up there. A natural. It was one of those proud dad moments where you see your child excelling and a spark catching fire. He loved being up there. And he was great at it.

I had no idea this tiny moment would be the start of something bigger. I didn’t predict the shows he’d go on to perform in… or that his enthusiasm would pull me, and eventually the whole family, onto the stage.

It all started with those few minutes of narration.
